Provision of education for sustainability development and sustainability literacy in business programs in three higher education institutions in Brazil, Colombia and Peru

Purpose This paper aims to report on the status and development of education for sustainable (ESD) sustainability literacy (SL) in three Latin American (LA) higher institutions (HEIs) business programs Peru, Brazil Colombia. The examines institutional efforts both introduce implement ESD curricula provide SL. Design/methodology/approach methods used this included reviews university Web pages course materials. Structured interviews were also conducted with program leaders, examine level ESD, as input affecting universities concerned. Findings Initial findings suggest that, HEIs surveyed, there is still a tendency talk about issues related but actions that confirm interest are not sufficiently advanced. authors surveys sample interviewed its leaders mixed dated picture emerged. When compared other regions particularly USA Europe, show surveyed have developed enough work distinguish conceptually between development, SL making embedment these concepts curriculum fully developed. Originality/value In LA HEIs, message seems be slowly taking ground, equipping respond concerns. Implementation practice some at an embryonic confused stage regard sheds light help delivery. It offers strategies moving from inception phase more structured provision outlook.
